Author Guidelines

The papers should be written in a scientific style, and the information should be presented clearly and consistently in both Russian and English. The paper should describe original research, with a clear goal, hypothesis, and how it was confirmed or disproved. The paper (either theoretical or empirical) should be innovative in its approach to the problem.

A research paper should describe original research, with a clear goal, hypothesis, and how it was confirmed or disproved. The general structure of the paper includes: title, information about the authors, mailing address, abstract, keywords, text of the paper, acknowledgements, references, tables, and figures.

A review paper is the result of the work of an author or a group of authors on summarizing all the research on a specific topic. The general structure of the paper includes: title, information about the authors, mailing address, abstract, keywords, text of the paper, acknowledgments, references to the literature used, tables, and figures.

Empiric research papers should not only provide a description but also an analysis of the results; reviews of fields in development should be critical rather than informative; theories should be original and provide new points of view.

A paper should be a new contribution to the field of study. The description of traditional methods in well-known scientific fields should contain new points to be positively evaluated by Reviewers.

Brevity is an advantage irrespective of the overall length of the paper. Avoid using questionable references and assumptions; all abbreviations should be explained upon first use.

A paper should typically not exceed 6,000 words, including the list of references used by the author. An extensive list of references is generally considered disadvantageous. The reasons for citations and references should be clear from the context, if possible. Be sure to thoroughly verify their accuracy and formatting.

Papers must comply with the American Psychological Association (APA) style. This particularly applies to the formatting of the reference list, as this poses the greatest challenge in editing. For information on APA style, please refer to: https://apastyle.apa.org/index.

Papers that do not comply with APA style will be returned for revision before editorial review.

Headings should be formatted as follows:

  • First level: regular, bold font, first letter capitalized, with no space before the text.
  • Second level: italics, first letter capitalized, with no space before the text.
  • Third level: regular, first letter capitalized, with no space before the text.

Keep your spelling consistent throughout the whole text when writing a paper in English – either British or American.

We recommend using EndNote or Reference Manager for formatting the reference list.

The EndNote style reference list format can be found at: https://endnote.com/

Paper submission

1) The Editorial Board recommends that Authors contact their colleagues to review their manuscript prior to submission. Internal review is considered irrelevant, but it has been proven to improve the quality of papers and increase the chances of success. Please have a native speaker edit your paper to correct any grammatical and lexical errors if English is not your native language. An error-free paper will allow Reviewers to focus entirely on the content of iе.

2) The paper should not contain typographical, spelling, or other errors. The Author is responsible for submitting an error-free paper; do not rely entirely on spell-checking programs. Errors prevent an objective review of the paper. As word processing programs become more advanced, it is becoming easier to submit papers in a professional format. Do not use additional program features. Use a simple text editor, such as Microsoft Word 97 or 2000. At the final stage of editing, we have to disable additional functions, which can distort the meaning of the paper. This process is time-consuming and may delay the publication of the paper until the next issue of the journal. Be sure to disable all additional functions prior to submitting a paper that has been formatted for internal use. Figures and tables should be included in the text to facilitate the work of Reviewers. Use high-resolution figures in bmp, jpeg, or tif format; avoid pale colors that will not be visible in printed black and white format. Use dotted lines to separate lines in graphs. The journal does not redraw any original figure(s).

3) Your paper for submission should include:

  • Brief details about the authors;
  • English and Russian versions of the abstract. Avoid using Google Translate for the translation; instead, consult a native speaker who can translate the abstract while adhering to lexical and grammatical standards;
  • Keywords in English and Russian;
  • Note on conflicts of interest for empirical research;
  • Note on open access.

4) Both the paper and subsequent edited versions should be submitted via the Editorial Park system. Please follow the link https://www.editorialpark.com/esd/login. If you are a new user, you will need to select the “sign up” option. Then, proceed with the registration process in the system as an Author. Sign in if you have already registered. Follow all instructions for submitting your paper. You will need to upload your files and confirm that you have completed the checklist provided at the end of this Information Letter.

Should you experience any complications with registration, signing in, or submitting papers, please contact the Editorial Board via email at samorazvitie@mail.ru.

Note on open access to data, ethics, and conflict of interest

a) A brief note explaining where and under what conditions your data can be accessed.

b) A note about the ethical guidelines under which the research was conducted and the approval of the relevant ethics committee. This may include how you ensured the rights of those involved in your research were protected, a statement that no harm was caused, how anonymity was maintained, etc.

c) A brief note about any conflicts of interest related to the work you are publishing. Conflicts of interest are less common in the field of educational technology than, for example, in biomedical research, where authors may receive funding from pharmaceutical companies. However, if the work you are submitting is related to commercial products (e.g., software developed for the educational process), you must carefully examine whether there is a conflict of interest and declare it at the beginning of your work. If no conflict of interest is present, state this clearly and explicitly.
